Kamloops is a city of over eighty thousand - third largest city in the
interior of British Columbia - offering both urban entertainment and a Western
ambiance with a strong First Nations influence. The city offers an art
gallery, two museums, professional theatre company, symphony and even an
International Film Festival each Spring (though don't think Kamloops has
gotten too citified: The Cowboy Festival attracts thousands of visitors each
March).
The entire surrounding area is an outdoor enthusiast's delight with superior
golfing, fishing, paddling, hiking and mountain biking. Prices are
generally excellent so you can secure first class hotel accommodation at great
prices. Friendly Kamloops, with the most parks (eighty-four) of any B.C.
community, makes a perfect base of operations.
Centrally located Kamloops is less than a four hour drive from Vancouver and six
hours from Calgary and is served by three railways and a regional airport.
The Shuswap people first named the area "T'kemlups," which means
coming together.MORE

Kamloops is easy to reach, has the warmest weather in Canada , offers a
surprising array of world-class sporting facilities and easily accessible
recreational experiences. Dubbed ?The Tournament Capital of Canada,?
Kamloops hosts an amazing variety of regional, national and world class
tournaments.
Unlike the rainier Southern B.C., Kamloops experiences over two thousand
hours of sunshine per year and only 10.62 inches of rain. In the winter, when
precipitation is welcome for winter activities, Kamloops experiences an average
snowfall of 86 centimetres (34 inches) in the city and up to 559 centimetres (17
feet) at nearby Sunpeaks, one of Canada?s largest ski areas! The
superbly groomed Sunpeaks slopes are famous for profuse sunshine,
plentiful, skiable snow and an award-winning trail and village design. Sunpeaks
offers over 3,600 skiable acres on three mountains, the utmost towering nearly
three thousand feet above the village resort.
Centrally located in the heart of British Columbia's Interior, visitors can
arrive by train, plane or automobile from all parts of British Columbia and
neighbouring Alberta. Don't pass up a visit to the British Columbia Wildlife
Park where families can stroll through a unique wildlife facility featuring over
seventy local and endangered species, children's programs and - surprisingly - a water park. For a unique view of the spectacular scenery, take a tour
on the Kamloops Heritage Railway. Ride the rails and soak in the
nostalgic ambiance of the meticulously restored steam engine # 2141, ?The
Spirit of Kamloops? (but be on the lookout for Billy Miner and his gang of
train robbers who appear from time to time!).
For a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, take in the Adams River Salmon Run.
Every year, nature's great story of birth, death and renewal takes place in the
shallow waters of the Adams River, east of Kamloops. The annual reaffirmation of
the cycle of life is one of nature?s most incredible spectacless and
travellers from around the world come to shallow waters of the Adams River to
see it. Each year from late September to the middle of October, hundreds of
thousands of Chinook, Coho and Pink salmon fight their way up the powerful
Fraser and Thompson Rivers to spawn, just as they have for millenia.
