HOTEL AND CITY GUIDES FOR MAJOR CITIES: Winnipeg |
Hotels in Manitoba Cities
Manitoba is located in the centre of Canada, bounded by Saskatchewan to the West
and Ontario to the East. This convenient location makes it roughly equal
distances to Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver and reasonably close to the
major U.S. cities of Minneapolis and Chicago.
Variously called Canada's "Keystone Province" and "Gateway
Province," Manitoba has a rich history. It was the home of Louis Riel,
leader of the M?tis Nation, who sought to resist what they believed was the
illegal appropriation of what is now Manitoba to Canada. Both the M?tis and
Franco-Manitoban cultures survive in contemporary Manitoba. Manitoba's capital -
Winnipeg - was also called "Little Chicago." When the railway first
spanned Canada, Winnipeg was a major shipping and agricultural trade hub; the
grandeur of the extravagant architecture of the time are still on display in
Winnipeg as is it modern, vibrant side.
