Richmond is located within Greater Vancouver, twenty minutes from downtown
and twenty-five minutes from the Canada-United States border. Culturally diverse
and geographically distinct, Richmond has experienced rapid growth and has been
transformed from a rural community into an international city. The construction of the Canada Line Rapid Transit Project is likely to further spur development, as it will greatly enhance access to and from downtown
Vancouver.
Because of its proximity to Vancouver International Airport (located on
Richmond's Sea Island) the majority of Vancouver's airport hotels are located in
Richmond, including the Delta, Fairmont, Hilton, Holiday Inn and Marriott.
Beautiful Richmond offers many attractions and some of the most beautiful
scenery in North America. Richmond is definitely NOT the type of borderline
industrial area where you find airport hotels in many cities. Strap on a pair of
roller blades, cycle or walk along the city's scenic trails; kayaking,
windsurfing and nature hiking are all readily available. MORE

Please provide search information for at least one of the following fields:
Richmond first was settled in 1879 on an island at the mouth of the Fraser
River and prospered with its farming, fishing and waterborne trade industries.
Today, major industries include aviation, berry farming, high tech and
manufacturing.
The old fishing village of Steveston in the southwest corner of Richmond has
been restored and is an area of shops, restaurants and businesses; boats line
the docks as fishermen unload their catches for sale.
The forty-four hectare Richmond Nature Park at 1181 Westminster Highway, has a
bird pond, beehive displays, mounted birds, a quaking bog and a profusion of
plants. One hour naturalist tours are available.
Throughout most of the summer, visit the Richmond Night Market Summer Festival.
The event is fun for the whole family with music, rides, electronic games and
more. Also popular is WaterMania water theme park.
Although the moderate West Coast climate does not yield the seasonal extremes of
much of Canada, Richmond's seasons do offer distinct pleasures. In spring, you
can witness the territorial flights of hummingbirds as bog flowers bloom below;
Summer days are long and the many walking trails provide cool evening strolls or
vigorous hikes; you might even spot a whale off the coast. Fall brings owls,
northern migratory birds, and dramatically coloured foliage as well as the
annual Cranberry Festival. In winter, an amazingly diverse population of winter
birds cheer Richmond's landscape.
According to statistics, residents of Richmond have the greatest life expectancy
in all of Canada. Maybe you should find out why!
