Climate:
 
Kelowna?s climate is mild and one of the reasons why so many of its visitors become residents. Warm summers are characterized by low humidity, along with relatively mild winters.

Kelowna is truly a city of four distinct seasons.  Summers do tend to be the busiest time of year as visitors come to the area to experience the many sites and attractions, as well as the near perfect weather.  Winter also brings tourists to the area for the abundant skiing.  With over 2,000 hours of sunshine annually, anytime of year is wonderful for a visit to this magnificent and picturesque city

Currency: All visitors should use Canadian currency when traveling within Canada. It is best to have local currency on hand prior to arriving; contact your local bank. Visitors may exchange their currency at Canadian banks, credit unions, or at the offices of foreign exchange brokers.

Alcohol: The legal drinking age in British Columbia is 19 years of age. Alcohol can be purchased at government liquor stores or privately-owned cold beer, wine and liquor stores.

Taxes for Travellers
There are three levels of taxation in Vancouver-Richmond. A 7% provincial sales tax (PST) is levied on most goods and services. In addition, there is a 7% Federal tax on the same items (GST). PST is not charged on accommodations. Instead, there is a 10% accommodation tax.

TIP: Non-Canadian residents are entitled to claim a rebate of all GST paid on accommodations and certain categories of goods purchases (see Canadian Travel Information on this site).
Always save the original receipts from stores and hotels (not just credit-card receipts), and be sure the name and address of the establishment is shown on the receipt. Original receipts are not returned.
